Useful Apps When Traveling Abroad

Going away is something we all look forward to doing. From the moment you book your holiday, you’ll set your countdown and be counting down the days until you get to go on your holiday.

When going away, it’s best to organize as much as you can beforehand, as this is more often than not, cheaper than if you are to book it in said destination. Plus, booking in advance means you don’t risk the chance of missing out on a bucket list activity - skydiving, scuba diving or paragliding, these sorts of activities are very popular and often booked out months in advance.

Part of your organization should involve downloading some useful apps which you can use along the way to support your travel. A VPN can be very useful, Google maps is a must as well as Uber or Bolt - you can use these for arranging a taxi pickup.

Below we look into three different apps which are very useful when travelling abroad.

Google Maps

For anybody who goes away, one of the first apps they should be downloading is Google Maps. It’s fantastic at navigating you around any destination. If you are in a major city like London and looking for a certain rooftop bar to walk to, you can use it to take you straight there. If you are driving in the countryside and are lost, you can use its navigation features to direct you on the roads. It works off your GPS, meaning you can get a very precise location, helping you get straight to where you want to be.

Uber, Bolt or any taxi app

Uber and Bolt are very popular but there are other taxi apps which you may want to use. Having an app like Uber or Bolt is useful as you can quickly use it to order a taxi to the destination you are trying to get to. If you are running late and in a popular city, this is particularly useful, as they often come in a quick time frame. Uber has recently started selling train tickets, so you can use it for that as well as ordering a takeaway.

VPN

Having a VPN when you are abroad is useful as you can use it to help with your online security and privacy on Wi-Fi and mobile networks. They are often free to download and very easy to use. Within a few clicks of a button, you can trick your device into thinking you are in another country, such as Canada, when you are in Walt Disney in the US, or Spain when you are in the UK. This is particularly useful if you enjoy watching Netflix and want to watch the shows that are available in their country.

What apps would you say are very useful when going abroad? What apps can’t you live with on a day-to-day basis? Is there anything we are missing that you think we should be adding? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
