Whew! First week of Nutrisystem down, 11 to go!
I got to start off my first week of Nutrisystem with the all new Turbo 10 which has the claim that you can lose up to 10 pounds and 5 inches in your first month. The new Turbo 10 comes with new shakes as well called TurboShakes with protein and probiotics to help support digestive health and beat belly bloat. The Turbo 10, or Turbo Takeoff, has everything you need for the first week in a handy box. Everything was separated from the rest of this month's meals and were picked specifically for the start week to jump start your weight loss. I was instructed to eat only the items in that box, two shakes a day, and 4 servings of veggies. Luckily, I was allowed spices and a few condiments and additives in small amounts to spruce up the veggies and meals a bit.
I was so accustomed to only eating one meal a day that I would almost forget I needed to drink a shake or have breakfast and lunch. For this reason, I had to set an alarm on my phone for each time I needed to eat/drink something and my schedule was as follows:
Nutrisystem Breakfast at 8:30am
TurboShake between 10:30am-11:00am
Nutrisystem Lunch at 12:30pm
Craving Crusher Shake at 2:30pm
Nutrisystem Dinner at 5:00pm
Breakfasts were either a breakfast bar or muffin and other than the trail mix bar, I loved them all. The cinnamon streusel muffin was my favorite. Lunch was either a bar or a soup of some sort, and dinner was a meal and veggies. Sometimes I ate veggies for snack at any given time during the day. Since non-starchy veggies are unlimited, you can eat as much as you want. The shakes both taste like Frosties or Fudgesicles. They were alright, but I'm not a huge chocolate shake person. If you love chocolate, you'll have no problem drinking the shakes.
So how was the first week?
The food was pretty delicious, actually. I didn't care for the chicken alfredo, but others found it to be the best entree they've had. I do have another one for this month, so I may jazz it up and see if I can change my mind about it. For me, the first week started out easy. I found myself having a hard time eating breakfast because I don't normally eat breakfast. This is usually because I'm not hungry that early in the morning and if I try to eat when I'm not hungry, I get nauseous. Some days I was able to eat my whole breakfast, other days I had half of my breakfast. The meals, coupled with the shakes, kept me full all day long. It wasn't until about 7:30pm that I started to get ridiculously hungry. Nomming on veggies when I got hungry wasn't doing it for me, so I switched up my schedule a little but and moved my Craving Crusher shake to 7:30pm and had it for dessert instead. This took care of the evening hunger I was feeling and the need for something sweet. I did rather well, but I will not lie to you, come weeks end, I found myself craving peanut butter and cheese. Both things I could not have until week 2.
Watching my family eat their meals was rough. I even got jealous of them eating frozen fish sticks and french fries. Can you believe it? I never thought I would miss fish sticks, of all things.
Along with keeping to this strict diet, 4 days of the week I was also doing what I call "Fast 55":
55 jumping jacks
55 crunches
55 push-ups
55 squats
I call it "Fast 55" because I can do it pretty quickly in the morning while my daughter is getting ready for school and before I start my day. It's, at most, a 20 minute workout, but once you've done it for a while, you can get those in a lot quicker. Of course, cleaning all day and running up and down our stairs doing laundry and keeping up with a 3 year old is a workout all by itself as well!
Now that I'm starting a new week, with new foods, and added items to my meals (dairy, grains, proteins, fruits...), I will be adding a new workout to my evenings as well as the "Fast 55" in the mornings. I'll talk a little about the new workout in my post for next week.
Saturday I hit a bit of a rough patch. About an hour after my "Fast 55" workout, I got really dizzy and passed out. I can't say for sure what caused it. I suspect low blood sugar, but I'll never know. I was pretty tired and kind of lethargic most of the day so I decided to skip the Nutrisystem meals for the day (I still had my shakes), and instead have an early dinner of steamed dumplings from the local Chinese place. I had 4 steamed pork dumplings with no sauce. I was pretty sure I had failed by making that decision, but I was pretty shocked when I stepped on the scale Sunday morning. Admittedly, I couldn't wait until Sunday morning and stepped on the scale Friday. I couldn't believe it. I was down 7 pounds in a week! After the decision to eat the steamed dumplings instead of my Nutrisystem meal Saturday night, I thought for sure that Sunday's weigh in was going to be bad.
To my utter shock, I had lost another pound, making my total loss for the first week 8 pounds!!
While I am guilty of cheating a bit Saturday night, I was able to make a pretty healthy choice by going with the steamed (instead of fried) dumplings, staying away from the sauce, and only having 4 of them instead of all 8.
So week one is complete and I'm looking forward to not only adding some new meals (and I get desserts now!) to my diet, but also seeing if the pounds continue to fall off. My biggest challenge is resisting the urge to weigh myself every day. My goal for the next 11 weeks is to stay away from the scale until Sunday mornings (my chosen weigh in day) and not stress about if I'm losing or gaining. With determination, I will be walking into our next convention in April, 20 pounds lighter and more confident than ever!

Thanks for a great review! I'm a stay at home dad, and I was like you, I had some tough times, but lost the same amount of weight. I found that I got more hungry when I had both a bar for lunch and a bar for breakfast. One of those meals needed to be something heavier.
